The YÜZÜ story started over 20 years ago at Sang’s Imperial Café & Sushi Bar, an immensely popular and asian cuisine family-owned sushi bar in Corpus Christi, Texas where my family started laying down our culinary roots. As political refugees from a powerful conservative aristocratic family who lost our country during the Vietnam War, my family transcended poverty and reestablished ourselves in a different kind of empire in the United States. We were initially inspired by the success of Uncle Keo Sananikone's Thai Cuisine Cookbook and trendy Thai restaurants in Honolulu that was regularly frequented by ex-presidents and Hollywood legends. My family opened our first tiny little restaurant in 1999.
My name is Nith Sananikone and I am so thrilled to be able to share with you the story of my heritage and cuisine. I am a classically trained chef with extensive experience in sushi. My colorful culinary past has seen me wield cast-iron pans inside 1000-degree ovens making Old World Sicilian fare and trained personally by Chef/Restauranteur Extraordinaire Thomas Ky of the Assaggio’s empire in Hawaii. Most recently, I was able to help my brother collaborate with Chef/Owner Frank Lu (Jing in Aspen) and then at THC & Sushi in El Jebel, Colorado which was opened by Mama Sang after being enchanted by the beautiful Rocky Mountains. My family is often featured on the news and are celebrated for regularly giving back to the community.
My menu draws from my extensive sushi and culinary experience and features authentic and fresh flavors of my rich Laotian heritage. My team and I are excited to be members of this community and look forward to serving you years to come. Please let us know how we can make you smile.
